I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. Anything other than God is a distraction. Distractions were created to amuse you in ways that keep your attention away from Jesus without even noticing. And we love distractions. We prioritize things above Christ everyday. School. Boyfriends/Girlfriends. Jobs. etc. Why is that? Well, I could say it is because we are human and we are materialistic and selfish. But, that's not the whole truth.
We are always thirsty. We are thirsty for God, yet a lot of people don't know that yet. The sad part is that, to feed our thirst, we think filling ourselves with materials and distractions will make us feel full. Yet, it's impossible to fill full without God. These distractions keeping you from following Jesus or putting him above everything will never help your thirst.
We need to put down these distractions and put God first. He should be the first thought when you wake up and the last before you sleep. Do you want to feel full or do you want to keep trying to relinquish your thirst with things that will never help? God is the only thing that can fill you.
Fill you with grace.
Fill you with strength and wisdom.
Free you.
Empower you.
Cleanse you.
So why would you want to put anything above him?
No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. -- Matthew 6:24
Substitute the thing(s) that you are putting above God and maybe this bible verse will give you another perspective about your priorities.
